The Garden that you keep.

As I lay there watching you sleep,

I think about the garden that you have to keep.

I realise that time stands still,

for the moments that we mill.

We try to keep them, for fear of the latter;

That we have them again or that they don’t matter.

But beautiful as this, you soon have to go.

Because you have this garden that you must grow.

Where there’s love, there’s a way,

But sometimes love isn’t here to stay.

It’s a flash in the wind, a weary goodbye.

A night of passion or a cloud in the sky.

Love doesn’t know, the laws of the land.

And why should it? It’s not made of man.

Life goes on, and sometimes we take a wrong turn.

But there will always be that pine and that yearn.

For we know how it feels now, to be in each others arms.

But that’s not where we’re to stay, for it’ll only cause harm.

We all have the things that we sow, and things that we reap,

Like that garden I talk about, that you have to keep.

I’ll miss you tomorrow and I’ll miss you today, for there will never be another love like this, one that got away.

Oh how I wish, that the garden was ours,

so you didn’t have to leave and we could plant our own flowers.

I wish you farewell as I watch you leave, as you have to go back,

To the garden,

That you keep.
